Stud Poker

Depending on the type of stud poker you are playing, you will be dealt your five or 7 cards in stages. Each round has a certain number of cards. Depending on the round, the cards can be face up or face down. By convention, any cards that are dealt face down in stud poker are termed hole cards. Another thing that all stud poker games have in common is the optional addition of wild cards. The players or the house can agree to have a certain card, like the 2 or the Ace as the wild card. Similarly, sometimes people deal in the jokers and have the jokers act as the wild cards.

Another convention of stud poker is that the betting rounds are named in reference to the number of cards each player has before the betting for that particular round begins. For example, if a bet occurs in stud poker when each player is holding 5 cards, that round might be called "fifth card" or "fifth street" Beyond that, each game variation of stud poker is unique with its own set of rules.

There are many different kinds of poker, and stud poker is just one of them. The two most common types of stud poker are 5 card stud and 7 card stud. 5 card stud has been played in the United States since the Civil War. Today, the many different variations of 7 card stud are far more popular than 5 card stud. Some of the stud poker games you may find include 6 card stud, razz, stud 8, Mississippi stud and Mexican stud.
