Spit in the Ocean
Spit in the Ocean is a variant of draw poker, but instead of 5 cards being dealt to each player, only 4 cards are dealt to each player, and 1 card is dealt face-up and placed in the middle of the table. Some games are played so that while the dealer is dealing the cards, someone yells "spit", and at that time the dealer deals a card face-up to the middle of the table. Other games are played so that after all cards are dealt to the players, then one card is dealt face up to the middle of the table. This will serve as the 5 th card for all players, and all like cards will be wild. For example, if the card placed in the middle is the 3 of diamonds, then that serves as the 5 th card for all players and all 3s are wild.
Play begins and progresses as for draw poker. At the showdown, when all cards have been revealed, the player showing her hand states how the 5 th card is being used. Since it is a wild card, in the example of the 5 th card being the 3 of diamonds, it could be changed to any card or any suit to complement the player's hand. For example: two players remain and player one has J-J-3-7, and player two has Q-A-6-4, all of hearts.
With the wild 3 in the middle of the table and the 3 in player one's hand, she has 4 Jacks. Player 2 has a flush by using the shared wild 3 in the middle of the table. Notice that player 2 only needed to change the suit of the wild card in order to have the flush. Nevertheless, since player one has a higher-ranking hand, she wins.
