Lowball
Lowball is played like five card draw, except that the winning hand is the lowest hand. The best hand in ace to five lowball is called a wheel or a bicycle. In deuce to seven lowball, the ace is considered a high card, and the best hand, 7-6-5-4,3-2, must have 2 or more suits. In general, the same poker rules apply in lowball.
Lowball begins with small blinds and big blinds before any of the five cards are dealt. The small blind is equal to half the minimum bet and the big blind the full minimum. The players must call the big blind in order to stay in the game. Following the rules of five-card draw, each player is dealt five cards face down and he may discard and replace from 0 to 4 cards before the betting resumes.
However, if the player chooses to replace the 5 th card, it is not dealt until everyone has received his or her cards and one card has been burned. In some games, a player must have an Ace in order to receive the 5 th card.
If there are two hands tied in lowball, then the hands are ranked in order of suits, from the lowest to the highest, clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades. Straights and flushes are not counted as high in determining the lowest hand in lowball. If there are equally ranking winning hands in lowball, then the pot is split between the two.
For something different in poker games, you definitely should consider lowball the next time you play.
