Poker Odds Strategy
It is difficult to formulate a single poker odds strategy, for an acceptable odds strategy will vary not only according to the version of poker being played, i.e. Texas/Omaha Hold'em or Seven Card Stud, it will vary according to the number of players at the table, the range of poker playing experience present at the table, player aggressiveness, the betting limit, and even your position in relation to the dealer. Notice, we have not even yet mentioned the odds of finishing a particular hand let alone winning with it (otherwise known as pot odds).
The best poker odds strategy for beginners, and really the only one it is possible to cover in an article of this short length, is simplicity. Start small, start really small; as a matter of fact try to launch your poker past-time at free or low betting limit tables. These players are, probably, also just getting started and will not require you to learn advanced techniques and skills at a time when you simply need the basics.
By far the best poker odds strategy is to play online and make use of one of the many online odds calculators as you play. This way you will, through practical experience, begin to learn how pot odds work by simple memory and association. If a pot odds calculator tells you enough times that holding x number of cards toward a flush means your pot odds for finishing the flush are, say, 13%, then eventually you learn that in all such situations your pot odds are 13%. Try it out. It's easier than you think.
